It is hard to believe that we have moved so swiftly from the seasons of Christmas and Epiphany into the season of Lent, however as you receive this February newsletter, we will be preparing for Ash Wednesday which is February 14.  The stores will be “decked out” with hearts and roses, but the church will be readying for preparing our hearts for prayer, reflection and renewal and a journey inward.  It is time to head to the cross and consider the enormous sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for us.
Our bishop, Bishop Daniel Beaudoin has deemed 2018 the Year of Prayer.  As such, we will examine prayer as the theme of the mid-week Lenten services.  We will look particularly at the Lord’s Prayer, dividing it into 5 sections for the 5 Wednesdays.  We will examine Luther’s explanation of the Lord’s Prayer along with current understandings.
Also, as we move through Lent, join us for Ash Wednesday, mid-week Lenten worship and the special services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.  My faith always grows as I diligently walk the path with my Lord for the 40 days of Lent.  Rather than “giving up” something, I take on a more rigorous devotional and prayerful time.  I find that this draws me closer to God and strengthens me in many ways.  Giving up chocolate or Coke just eliminates a few calories!
Remember, God swooped down in Genesis and made Adam and Eve from the dust of the earth.  God breathed breath into them.  God breathes breath into us; redeems us by the gift of Christ on the cross and raises us with Jesus in the resurrection to life everlasting.  Thanks be to God!
Pastor Renee
